Day 2: Setting up a picture library

ACTION STEPS FOR TODAY:

#1

Decide how to set up your picture library: categorized files, just images, or a mixture of files and images. Create a folder for your picture library and the files you may need. Remember to create a USED file wherever you want to keep used images, in case you need them later.

#2

Find stock photo sites and make sure you understand the licences. >>Here’s the link to my blog post on over 60 stock photo sites for your blog.<<

#3

Spend some time downloading images from these sites and saving them to your picture library.

Day 1: Setting up a blog post template

ACTION STEPS FOR TODAY:

#1

Plan the basic layout of your standard blog post. This is the format that most of your blog posts follow whenever you publish one. It’s great to have a guide when you do this so there’s consistency in your work and a golden thread throughout your blog.

If you have more than one kind of format (I do), then that’s perfectly fine. Just write down the formats for each so you can set these up to appear with the click of a button for you later.

If you don’t have a standard blog post format yet, then feel free to follow the one I write about in my article >>here<<, or check out some of your favorite blogs to see what format they use.

#2

Get everything ready for your blog post template. Here are some things you might want to prepare, with links to a few articles that guide you through the steps:

– A format for your featured images (the main image on your blog posts). We will test these later to see how they show up on Facebook, to make sure they don’t get cut off.

– A standard newsletter sign-up form with your email service provider. If you don’t have one and you want to start with a great one, then you can get a free trial with ConvertKit >>here<<.

– A blog signature to sign off blog posts. Find out how to do that >>here<<.

– An affiliate disclosure if you’re promoting products or services that you love and you receive a commission for sales. You can read mine at the bottom of my posts and adapt it to suit your personality and audience.

– An author bio. Add this if you want to make your blog a bit more personal, or you could add a company bio if it’s a corporate blog. This is a great opportunity to connect with readers on a personal level before they wander off.

#3

Get the Simple Content Templates plugin activated on your site.

#4

Create a blog post template in the Simple Content Templates using the format you created in step 1.
