Meet Monique

Ten years ago I left a job I really disliked to start freelancing. I was determined to make it on my own and to be my own boss. I just knew there was more out there for me.

I was scared. No, I was actually pretty terrified. But I worked hard and I built up a client base. In this time I studied teaching and psychology and online business, which I’d always wanted to learn about. Taking this terrifying leap actually opened up a whole new world of interesting and wonderful opportunities.

Here’s what’s happened in the past decade…

wrote industry reports for Deloitte, edited reports and wrote marketing material for an awesome research company, wrote website copy for various companies, and organized functions for a fertilizer company. I know, right? Every single day was different!

won an entrepreneurs’ competition, coming in the top 3 of 700 entries and winning in my category for best new start-up idea. Here I am with my big check, which was one of the prizes I received:

self-published some of my books, printing some locally and selling others online across the world. Now I could write what I wanted and about things I cared about.

I landed my dream freelance job as a writer for a children’s book publishing company, adapting international books for local children in South Africa. I then worked my way up to general manager and grew in so many ways.

won a life coaching session with an amazing coach, who I later did a full program with. Here I am in the local community magazine, which announced my special win:

Winning a competition in a local magazine

I was chosen to be featured in a marketing campaign for an investment company. I was on radio stations, in newspapers, and in a TV advert – which you can enjoy here:

I met Martin, who I now share my life and home and love with. Here we are together on a special night out:

Mr and Ms Tiara Tribe on a date

And I finally started my blog. This blog. The one that has been a long time coming and which I’m super-excited about.

My, how things have changed since I handed in that resignation letter!

Welcome to Tiara Tribe. I hope you take the steps needed to make your own dreams come true. And I look forward to building an online business you love with you, every step of the way.

Monique
