With nearly 300 million monthly users and being listed on the stock exchange, Pinterest is big news. Big business news that is. You definitely need a free Pinterest business account for your blog. Here’s how to get one and screenshots of exactly how I set up my own business profile for the best results.
When I first discovered Pinterest I was obsessed. I couldn’t believe there could be so many pretty pictures of so many pretty things that interested me, all on one never-ending page. And I wasn’t alone.
The girls in the office who introduced me to this love affair were obsessed too, and we spent many lunch hours finding home décor tips, gorgeous outfits and fun things to try. It sure beat the canteen.
And guess what? We weren’t alone either.
Pinterest captured the imagination of millions and continues to grow. If you don’t have a Pinterest business account for your blog yet, then follow the easy steps below before taking a sneak peek at my own business profile to help you set up your own.
It only takes a few minutes to set up a Pinterest business account and doesn’t cost a cent. Yay for Pinterest!
Why get a Pinterest business account?
There are all kinds of perks to having a business account with Pinterest.
Firstly, you can brand your profile to get exposure for your blog. Use your logo, add your blog’s name, put keywords in your display name and profile, and claim your website, which all give you an opportunity to market your blog to millions more people – all for free. There are screenshots of my business profile later so you can see how I set mine up and why – download it for free at the end of this post.
Secondly, you get access to Pinterest Analytics. Here you can see what pinners are interested in, their basic info such as age and gender, and which pins they really like. This is awesome for planning Pinterest content and marketing.
Thirdly, Pinterest can link your content to your blog and you can apply for rich pins. This is important because Pinterest likes new content that’s good quality, so it shows this to more people to see how pinners react to it. Also, rich pins give more details below the picture in a pin, which helps pinners to read more about your blog post and decide if they want to click through and check it out.
Types of Pinterest business accounts
You have three choices when choosing a Pinterest business account:
- Open a brand new Pinterest business account
- Link a business account to your personal account
- Change your personal account into a business account
Which Pinterest business account should you choose?
If you don’t have any Pinterest account at the moment or you want to start a new account, simply open a new business account. There’s no reason to set up a personal account if you don’t need one.
If you have a personal account that you want to keep personal, then add a business profile to your personal account. You can switch between these profiles when you need to. You could also choose this option if you are running several blogs or online businesses that each need a separate business profile on Pinterest. You can add a maximum of four business accounts to one personal account.
If you already have a personal Pinterest account that you don’t mind converting, then change your personal profile into a business profile. This is what I did as it seemed the easiest option at the time. I’ve made my personal boards secret so others can’t see them, while my blog-related boards are public.
Have you decided which option is best for you? Great, then let’s find out how to get your Pinterest business account! Remember to check out how to set up your business profile by downloading the freebie at the end of this post.
